Based on sequence analysis of cDNA clones_x000D_ it appears that the CaSR is similar to the 7-transmembranedomain_x000D_ G-protein-coupled receptor superfamily. Changes in_x000D_ extracellular calcium are thought to modulate a balance between_x000D_ proliferation and differentiation in a variety of cell_x000D_ types. In normal primary keratinocytes and breast epithelial_x000D_ cells, proliferation is inhibited and elevated extracellular_x000D_ calcium levels trigger differentiation.
